AT St Ives station, hundreds of schoolchildren and spectators gathered to see the Queen and Prince Philip arrive for their tour of the picturesque town.
A group of somewhat bemused passengers got off the preceding train to be greeted by banks of jubilant people waving flags at them.
When the train rounded that corner, an immediate cheer of "here she is" went up from the crowd.
The Queen was greeted by a welcoming committee. It included the Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall, Edward Bolitho, and the former incumbent, Lady Mary Holborow.
Devon and Cornwall's Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg was present, as was the MP for St Ives, Andrew George.
He said the occasion showed the town at its very best.
"It's a wonderful day for St Ives and for Cornwall," he said.
"As a proud Cornishman, it's great to see Cornwall showing its best face to the world.
"We are very proud of our links to the Royal Family through the Duke of Cornwall.
"It's wonderful for the whole of the community who have come out. It's a real cause for celebration."
