Three hero police officers helped save the life of a man who cut off his own genitals in Penryn.
PC Jules Evans, PC Kim James and PC James Tompson were called to Mutton Row on Friday evening after reports that the man had used a kitchen knife to self harm.
The found him in his house, where they restrained him to administer "vital and life saving first aid" while waiting for the paramedics to arrive.
Sgt Phil Binnie said: "If the people in the area had not called this in as quickly as they did and the prompt life saving actions of the officers attending, this would most likely of been a fatal incident."
PC Evans said: "This was a very distressing incident for all involved, and I would like to thank the public for their assistance at the time.
"I feel very sorry for those members of the public who witnessed this incident but had it not been for their help this person would most probably died."
The first paramedic on scene described the injuries as an "arterial bleed" and a "catastrophic haemorrhage".
Police said the man is now in a stable condition in hospital.
