This year's Royal Cornwall Show, featuring everything from a Princess to parachutes and prize pigs, will be one of the best yet, organisers have said. Gates open for three days on June 6 and this year there are new classes for Blue Texels in the sheep classes and Oxford Sandy and Blacks in the pig section. In the equine section, a class for retrained racehorses has been introduced and attracted a healthy entry of 13. The Princess Royal is visiting Cornwall's major annual event on the first day and will have a busy programme of people to meet, awards to present and events to watch. One of the big draws for people is the entertainment, which is happening on a grand scale. The main arena is the focus for a programme which includes a daily appearance by the RAF Falcons parachute display team. On the ground is a new act from the Stampede Stunt Company. Gulliver's Carnival is a circus themed show, controlled and watched over by a stilt walking ringmaster. The Kangaroo Kid is back – doing exciting things with quad bikes that defy the laws of gravity. This time Australian Matt Coulter is appearing with his son Sam and together they are known as The Kangaroos Kids. On Friday and Saturday the Central Band of the RAF will also be appearing in the arena with their precision marching routines and a stirring selection of music. Listen out for their most famous number – the Dambusters' March. Show jumping, the fast and furious inter-hunt relay, grand parades of cattle, sheep, goats and horses, and the massed hounds of local hunts complete a great, all-action line up in the main arena. And for those in need of some retail therapy there is over 1,000 quality trade stands. Most car manufacturers and dealers are represented at the Motor Fair. A superb flower show is another place to linger, as is the countryside area which offers peace and quiet as well as programmes of demonstrations of countryside skills. Two music stages and the Cornwall Festival of Dance provide a tuneful backdrop. A huge, three-day dog show has a busy daily programme. You can call in to the forestry exhibit, see blacksmiths hammering in competition, glory in the expertise of the arts and crafts exhibits and enjoy the sights and sounds of the steam and vintage fair.
