FRIENDS and family of a 26-year-old mother with terminal cancer raised about £9,000 yesterday to send her and her young family on a holiday of a lifetime. They organised a big fundraising event at the Coppice Inn in Lanner to help Ashton Forder of Redruth. Mrs Forder was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in 2009 but she has recently found out that the cancer has spread to her diaphragm and is now inoperable. She will start a few months of chemotherapy next week before she, her husband and their three children will make the break of a lifetime to Disneyland in Paris. The event was organised by friends Gemma Delaney, Ruth Stevens, Zoey Bryant and Lisa Williams. Gemma said: "What an amazing day it was, there was so much support and we had around 300 people in and out during the day and around 200 in the evening. "We managed to raise a total of £9,000 so they will be able to have the break of a lifetime and make precious memories with the children. "In addition Close Hill Co-op store in Redruth raised £3,000 for Ashton towards the holiday so we owe them a massive thanks." Gemma and the other organisers would also like to extend their thanks to everyone who donated equipment, food, raffle and auction prizes, adding: "We were overwhelmed with the response we've had."
