A WEST Cornwall garden stepped back in time to the Roaring Forties with a living history event.
The National Trust's Trengwainton Garden welcomed the Home Guard, military vehicles and Second World War rations over the bank holiday.
Performers sang hits from the era, while treats were served in a country market and re-enactors gave young and old their marching orders with parades through the picturesque grounds.
Sunday saw the Heamoor venue welcome its largest number of visitors for a one day event but the same could not be said for the following day.
"The event was absolutely fantastic," said Beth Rose, visitor services and enterprise manager for the local trust garden.
"Sunday was the best day event we've ever held with 678 people coming along. Monday was a bit of a wash-out but we still had around 200 people who braved it."
She added that the gardens held a similar event two years ago and this latest attraction helped showcase the venue at its best.
"The sunshine on Sunday brought along a lot of people," she said.
"People were staying for hours and hours, sprawling out in the meadow and the atmosphere was great."
