A CHILDREN'S swing set was targeted by arsonists in a Penzance play park on Tuesday.
A fire crew from Penzance fire station was called to the blaze in Penlee Park at around 9.10pm.
Crew manager Ian Neal said firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish the fire, which had been started in a large bucket-type swing, which is used for more than one child to play on.
He said: "We could see plumes of smoke as we were coming down Penalverne Drive, black smoke indicating it was either plastic or oil-based.
"One of the children's big circular swings was well alight."
Mr Neal said passersby walking their dogs had not seen anything so details of the incident, which is believed to be arson, have been passed on to the police.
It is not the first time the park has been set alight. In March 2011, a climbing frame made from tyres attached to play equipment was targeted by arsonists.
The resulting fire destroyed the tyres and damaged the surrounding wooden play tower.
