Firefighters in Penzance praised the action of a person who rushed over to wake up a sleeping neighbour in the middle of the night when smoke was spotted coming from their home.
A resident of Alverton Road had fallen asleep while their supper was left cooking in the oven causing the home to fill with smoke.
But a quick-thinking neighbour was woken up by the fire alarm at around 2.45am and jumped out of bed to see what was going on.
After spotting smoke coming from the house next-door, the person called 999 and managed to wake the occupant of the home who had slept through the sound of the alarm.
Tom Nicholas, a firefighter from Penzance fire station said: "It was lucky that someone heard the alarm and went round to see what was happening it sounds as if it was some pretty quick thinking.
"When we arrived on the scene the property was already being properly ventilated. You never know with these things, it could have been a lot worse if the neighbour hadn't been woken up."
Firefighters checked the oven fire was extinguished before leaving the scene.
