A fundraising team from Callington's Ginsters have climbed, cycled and canoed their way through a gruelling 60km challenge to raise funds for children's charities The quad raised nearly £2, 500 for CHICKS and St Luke's Hospice by competing in the bi-annual Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge event in Scotland. "The day was ridiculously tiring but very worthwhile," said team leader Richard Hemming. "We had a few injuries and added a few extra miles to our journey by biking the wrong way but we had a fantastic time and helped raise some money for two very deserving charities," the customer marketing controller added. During the challenge the team, who all work at the Cornish food manufacturers Ginsters, spent 12 hours climbing Ben Lomond, canoed 10km around Loch Lomond and cycled 44km across the Scottish Highlands. Out of the 30 teams that competed in the event, the Ginsters group, which included Richard Hemming, Mark Duddridge, Shaun Galloway and Liz Cane, came a respectable 13th place. Dubbing themselves the Slow Patrol, the team have raised £2, 500 so far and will split the money between CHICKS, which provide week long respite breaks for disadvantaged children, and St Luke's Hospice, which cares for terminally ill children. And after completing this challenge they are already looking forward to starting their next fundraising campaign. "We want to raise even more at our next challenge so bring it on," Mr Hemming said.
