10.45am: POLICE have confirmed that one person has died following this morning's serious road traffic accident in Newquay.
A spokesman said specialist officers were at the scene and an examination was ongoing.
No information on the identity of the victim has been released.
8am: A SERIOUS road traffic accident in Newquay this morning has left at least one person with "potentially fatal" injuries.
The incident took place in the early hours on the A392 Gannel Road near Tregunnel Hill and reportedly involved just one vehicle - a white Peugeot.
An officer at the scene said it was still the subject of a forensic investigation but was unable confirm how many people were involved.
He said the injuries caused were serious enough for police to class the incident as a "potential fatality".
Debris still litters the road, including a single trainer and what appears to be a baby's nappy.
The officer said more information would be released in due course.
The road remains closed in both directions.
