LOCAL volunteers have helped transform a community park in Goonhavern by installing new equipment, plants and flowers.
They pulled down old fencing and installed a new fence and posts, two new benches made by a member of the community and a picnic table donated by Goonhavern Garden Centre.
Steve Moore, from Penrose Holiday Park, helped organise the labour force, and workmen from Park Leisure, who are working on the new Oyster Bay mobile home park, supplied manpower and concrete.
Tanya Leigh-Gilchrist, chairman of the Friends, said: "All sorts of people arrived with tools and weeded, raked and tidied the park, including two holidaymakers down for the weekend who thought what we were doing was great and so joined in."
Children planted trees, given by the Woodland Trust, and flowers, with many people arriving bearing plants.
Miss Gilchrist said: "The community spirit was a joy to see. People came with cakes for the volunteers; a passer-by gave me £10 towards the park. Neighbours came with tea; the local shop Bridge Stores came over with bottled water. The wood was donated, as well as seats, and the community did all the hard work so we've incurred no costs."
