THIS year's Falmouth Week festivities will take place from August 9 to 18.
The annual event combines world class regatta racing with a mammoth 10-day music event under the huge marquee on Events Square.
This year's line-up kicks off with the Pink Wig Charity Night on Friday, August 9, following the success of last year. With proceeds going to breast sancer research, the pink bubbles, pink wigs and pink cocktails will once again be flowing a-plenty to the funky sounds of Neon Luv Chicken plus other guests.
Saturday 10th sees the 25th anniversary of the Falmouth Town Carnival, with the celebratory procession, led by Falmouth Marine Band, culminating in a free entry Carnival Party, complete with live music, entertainment, and food and drink in the Events Square marquee to mark the celebrations.
Now a staple of the Falmouth Week calendar, everybody's favourite cider-guzzling quartet, The Wurzels, will be back for their infamous Hog Roast and Cider Night on Sunday 11th, prompting local fans and visitors alike to adorn themselves in ridiculous (and sometimes inappropriate) farming costumes and drink Cornish Ratter (even if they don't like cider). This will be followed by Falmouth's Got Soul on the Monday with a live show from the Soul Survivors – a firm favourite with locals.
New for 2013, Company B, a Cornish jump jive band will give a toe-tapping set with plenty of opportunity to get your boogie on and step back in time on Tuesday 13th, with Wednesday night seeing leading Queen tribute act The Bohemians playing all the band's greatest hits. Queen's very own Roger Taylor has decribed the band as "uncanny.
Ska fans will be out in force again on Thursday, August 15, for a night of music and entertainment from Rudi's Message, who need absolutely no introduction to the South West's ska and live music scene.
And neither will the headliner for Friday's 80s 90s Dance Party night, now in its fifth year. Nineties diva and vocal powerhouse Angie Brown (I'm Gunna Get You – Bizarre Inc, 1992) will be performing her hits live on stage, followed by a Nod To The 90's Dance Party hosted by none other than N Trance's DJ Kuta.
And last but certainly by no means least, Cornwall's own reggae troop BackBeat SoundSystem will headline the Caribbean Night entitled Pirates of Kernow Party on the last Saturday to close Falmouth Week, with support from The Stalks, a reggae-ska-rap group from St Agnes.
Tim Vigus, Falmouth Week organiser, said: "The Southwest Bars and Events team will be back for another year of blood sweat and tears to bring Falmouth the best continual live music and entertainment the region has to offer, and we are raring to go. Every year we look to add that extra something to the event – it is a continual progression and we always welcome feedback and ideas from all areas. There is some truly superb talent on this year's line-up, combined with the Falmouth Week Regatta, the best local ales and ciders in the county, and a dedicated and proud team of people who work so hard together to make this happen annually. We can't wait."
Tickets for the individual nights will go on sale on the Seetickets website at the end of June, with the Events Square Box Office opening for business in mid-July.
