Falmouth's Sam Goodchild remains on course to become the highest place British finisher in the La Solitaire du Figaro race.
He finished leg three of the race in 14th in Roscoff just before midnight on Saturday night.
He is now in tenth place overall, ahead of Vendee Globe legend, Michel Desjoyeaux in 11th and Armel Le Cleac'h in 12th.
He said: "I'm pretty happy with a 14th in leg three.
"At the start of the day I was massively nervous and stressed, meaning I got off to an awful start, but after leaving the Spanish coast I was able to calm down a bit and work my way into 10th by Ile d'Yeu.
"Friday night and Saturday was a windy affair with 25-30kts of wind and a horrible sea state.
"I struggled a lot for speed upwind and lost valuable miles. Then the spinnakers went up at Raz de Sein, meaning in the whole leg sleeping was a lot harder than the first two legs.
"I have Mich Desj less then two minutes behind me and Armel less than ten minutes – between them they've won this race five times and got two firsts and two seconds in the Vendée Globe."
The fourth and final leg begins on Thursday, where Goodchild must finish above 18th overall to break the current British record.
This is calculated by overall time on the water. Goodchild spent two hours less than 18th place to complete the three legs so far.
The final leg is 514 miles from Roscoff, across the channel, up the south coast of the UK, south of the Isle of Wight and then back across the channel to finish in Dieppe.
