Rock inshore lifeboat crew were called out at 3.15am this morning to assist a yachtsman who had gone aground on a sand spit near Daymer Bay.
The sailor and his dog were motoring in to the Camel Estuary heading for Padstow when the 30 foot single-hulled yacht hit a sand spit near Daymer Bay. With the tide dropping the fin-keeled vessel began to tilt on to its side.
In patchy fog RNLI crew volunteers Jinx Hewitt, Pete Thomas and Chris Dunkerley onboard the D class inshore lifeboat Rusper took the man and his dog off the yacht and back to the Rock lifeboat station.
It's hoped the yacht will be re-floated on the high tide this afternoon, with assistance from harbour officials.
It's understood the man and his dog were on passage from Port Talbot to Padstow.
