A FRENCH yacht which suffered damage to its mast during the Solitaire du Figaro solo race last night is now being repaired in Falmouth.
The boat still had an engine and so when the incident occured at about 10.50pm the sailor was able to retire from the race and steer into Falmouth Harbour.
A Falmouth Coastguard spokesman said it appeared that the mast snapped due to strong winds and they monitored the situation.
The sailor, who was uninjured, moored up in Falmouth and is awaiting repairs.
