Grampound Football Club have announced that Tim Topham has been appointed as the manager of their first team, who play in Duchy League division one. Club chairman Allan Webb said: "Tim has managed our reserves in the past and is well known to many in local football. "We are looking forward to him bringing a fresh approach and he will be ably assisted by Ryan Maker, who managed the team for much of last season. "Our players have reacted positively to these appointments and we expect to be in the chase for promotion to the Duchy Premier Division. "Club stalwart Glyn Leaney will continue the sound job he has done in managing the reserve team." A big event for the club in the next few months will be the opening of the new pitch and training area in October. The Sport England funded pitch re-laying and drainage work is well under way and plans are in hand to host a match against Argyle Legends for the official opening. The development will give the club one of the best pitches in the area as well as a new space for training and childen's football, with players throughout the club looking forward to playing and training on the new surface. The club starts its pre-season training on Tuesday 2nd July on the grass field at Poltair School, St Austell and welcomes players old and new to come along and take part. Training continues every Tuesday and an interesting set of friendly matches is being organised prior to the Duchy League Division 1 and Division 4 campaigns starting. Children's coaching sessions begin on Saturday July 6 at Grampound Road School (9.30-11am) and all children aged 6 upwards are welcome to attend. Grampound FC will again be entering teams in the East Cornwall Youth League next season.
