A PROJECT to highlight how hard it can be to get about St Ives for people with disabilities has been launched after a group of interested locals came together.

The project, called Remapping St Ives, will use art to highlight the difficulties people with limited mobility have in the town.

It will also celebrate places, people and organisations that support people with mobility problems.

The community art project was launched last week and will include an informal survey of the issues.

Members of the project include project director Jo Mayes, former town councillor Colin Sanger who has current mobility problems, wheelchair access campaigner Christine Wheeler and others keen to kick-start an informal survey of the town.

Jo said: "It is hoped the initiative will be the catalyst for small changes which will make a huge difference to the quality of people's lives.

"Obviously St Ives is an historic town which can't be remodelled, but through better information and small changes we hope to find creative ways in which more people will be able to enjoy our town."

In order to highlight results from the survey, and encourage people to consider possible solutions, key places and issues will be highlighted through a performance by Shallain Inclusive Dance Theatre Company on September 20.
