Redruth 44 Chinnor 14
Redruth got back to winning ways with a seven-try win over Oxfordshire visitors Chinnor, reports Bill Hooper.
Despite the scoreine Chinnor proved to be tough opponents for Redruth during the first 60 minutes.
Skipper Chris Fuca's try appeared to be the straw that broke Chinnor's resistance, along with a red card for the visiting scrum-half Frank Jones for foul play just moments after.
Redruth then put the seal on a fine win with further tries from No.8 Tom Duncan and flanker Owen Hambly.
Playing down the slope first half Redruth got an early score through winger Fraser Kellythorn after just six minutes.
A second try was scored soon after following a strong run from his own half by Lewis Vinnicombe playing at centre. Play was taken on by Hambly and his kick through was gathered by centre Sam Parsons who scored a fine try on his final game at the Recreation Ground before travelling to Australia.
Before the first quarter was over Kellythorn had crossed for his second score with Paul Thirlby adding the extras giving the Reds just the start they hoped for.
Chinnor got good field position to make the most of a catch-and-drive with prop Joe Pickett claiming the try, fly-half James Cathcart added the conversion and leave the score at half-time 17-7 to the Reds.
The bonus point try came thanks to Duncan who got over in the scoreboard corner to score the first of his brace, Thirlby kicking a fine conversion for the extra points.
The game started to open up as the second half wore on, Kellythorn was unlucky to see a third try chalked off by the officials for a forward pass.
Chinnor were still looking dangerous and pulled the deficit back to just ten points at 24-14 with a second try scored by winger Philip Seymour, Cathcart was once again on cue with the extras.
The drama of the cards really put paid to the game as a contest as the visitor's heads appeared to drop and the late scores were run in along with an Ashley Hosking drop-goal and Thirlby adding his third conversion to Hambly's try.
