A HAYLE woman who was blinded by her partner in an horrific attack is supporting a campaign to let women find out if their partner has a violent past.
Tina Nash, 32, appeared on the BBC One Show tonight where she revealed she had tried to leave Shane Jenkin before he attacked her in April last year, gouging out her eyes.
She said she felt she would have had the strength to go if she had known about his history of violence towards women, but instead he "manipulated" her and persuaded her to go back to him.
Tina, wearing dark glasses, a white t-shirt and black waistcoast, spoke with great courage about her support for Clare's Law - a pilot scheme in which men and women are warned by the authorities if their partner has a violent past.
She told the show she had asked social services on numerous occasions to tell her if Shane Jenkin had abused women previously, but they wouldn't tell her.
"Obviously I didn't know that he was violent towards women and I fell in love with him and by the time it got to that eight months it was too late, I was in love," she said.
"I did try to leave him... but he manipulated me and I got back with him. I didn't realise I was a victim until this happened - I felt like he was more of a victim, that was how he made me feel."
Tina has been investigating Clare's Law, which she describes as "a step in the right direction", for a Channel Four Dispatches programme, Do You Know Your Partner's Past?, which will be aired at 8pm tonight. Tina is also releasing a book this Thursday called Out Of The Darkness.
