A man was rescued from his smoke-filled property by firefighters in the early hours of Saturday. One fire engine from St Austell responded to a 999 call at 4.30am from the man, who was trapped in his house in Sylvan Close. The crew was on scene within six minutes. Firefighters wearing breathing sets found the man inside the property and led him to safety. The fire was found to have started in a grill pan. The man had suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene by paramedics. Fire crews ventilated the house before returning to the station.
