WHAT is thought to be the largest mixed choir in the South West is paying a first ever visit to Penzance next weekend.
The Cornwall Symphony Chorus, under musical director Alastair Taylor, comprises upward of 150 voices and will be performing at St Mary's Church next Saturday, July 12.
With members drawn from 45 choirs around Cornwall, the choir, which will be accompanied by Philip Davey on organ, Roger Wills on piano and Jack Callow on keyboard, will be singing a wide range of popular classical music with excerpts from Zadok the Priest, Die Fledermaus and the Abba back catalogue as well as medleys from Carousel and Broadway musicals.
The choir will welcome Penzance tenor Ben Hoadley as guest vocalist while Rebecca Wills, from BBC Spotlight, will act as compere.
Mr Taylor said he and the choir were very much looking forward to coming to Penzance.
"This is our only concert in Cornwall before our Christmas concert in Truro and it is very exciting to come to Penzance for the first time," he said.
"St Mary's Church is a fantastic place to sing so we are hoping for a full house and looking forward to seeing if we can raise the roof."
Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children under 16 and are available at Morrab Studios Penzance, and JS Eyecare, Fore Street, Redruth, or on the door.
They can also be reserved by ringing 01209 842977.
The concert starts at 7.30pm and there will be an exit collection for the Penzance branch of Cancer UK.
