This weekend sees many of the South West's top performance catamaran sailors arriving at Windsport and Restronguet Sailing Club to take part in the Dart 18 South West Championships.
Restronguet Sailing Club was home to Sir Ben Ainslie as he developed his sailing skills that have lead him to launch his recent America's Cup Catamaran Challenge in 2017 and the Carrick Roads, off Mylor Yacht Harbour, is recognised widely as being the perfect venue for this style of event.
The Dart 18 is an internationally recognised One Design Class (meaning everyone races on the same equipment) which was developed and built by Panthercraft Limited in Penryn and now is sailed in every continent across the world.
On Saturday and Sunday up to 30 boats will compete to take home the Championship title and with the forecast looking perfect for both sunshine and solid breeze it should be a thrilling race series. The fleet includes previous national and International Championship winners and we expect these high performance boats will make an amazing spectacle and with everyone competing on the same equipment it could be anyone's race.
The first race begins at 12 o'clock on Saturday.
