A PRIMARY school has unveiled a new mural which was created thanks to its Pupil Parliament.
The debating chamber at Threemilestone School recently considered a motion put forward by the Year 2 class to have a mural painted on the outside wall of the school to make it "brighter and more exciting".
Jack Clatworthy, the 'prime minister', and Jhaenelle Gray, the 'leader of the opposition', decided to let the children vote and that motion was passed by a huge majority.
Kirsten Maun, the school's art co-ordinator, arranged a competition for the children to suggest their ideas, which would be later painted on the wall. Jenny Tregear, of Monster Murals at Ventongimps, created the artwork.
She said: "I have worked at Threemilestone School before; in fact the Key Stage 1 corridor is decorated in murals which depict children's storybook characters. I was delighted when the school approached me again for the external design.
"I took some of the ideas which the children had come up with to produce the final mural. I hope that the school is happy with the outcome and that it will make people smile."
Head teacher Mark Lees said: "I am always very keen to ensure that decisions which are made at the school parliament become a reality. This is one which is very visual for the children.
"It has transformed the front aspect of our school. It is no longer a drab, single colour exterior. It is fun and exciting and the characters in the mural are shown doing activities that children at Threemilestone School are excellent at – singing, sport, music and having fun while learning together."
