POLGOOTH'S village post office – described as the heart of the community – has been put up for sale.
Polgooth's post office has been run by community-minded couple David and Dawn Geeves for 26 years and is the only shop in the village.
But Mr Geeves has been battling with illness, which prompted the couple to put the business up for sale and move up the road to Little Polgooth.
"We chose to stay here because we love the local community and the area; it's a great place to live," they said.
"This was recently demonstrated by the support we received during David's illness which has, in fact, led us to our current situation where we have to move on."
Mrs Geeves told the Cornish Guardian they plan to spend their time fulfilling their dreams of travelling and enjoying the Cornish coast.
St Mewan Parish Councillor Chris Passmore, who also lives in the village, said the post office is the heart of the village.
"It's a huge part of our community; a valuable, rural resource," he said. "I think it's vitally important for it to stay as a post office."
Mrs Geeves said that it is only the Post Office Ltd who could decide to close that part of the business, not the new owners.
The freehold of Polgooth Post Office is being offered for sale at an asking price of £360,000.
