A PENSIONER from St Columb remains in a critical condition after a 7.5-tonne lorry reversed over her a fortnight ago.
Patricia Heard, 65, was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth for emergency surgery after she was dragged along the road at the corner of Jenner Parc on October 27.
The Cornish Guardian reported last week that her friends had been devastated to hear about the accident, which happened at around 11.15am.
Neighbour Laraine Atkinson said her pal had suffered "horrific" injuries, including a collapsed lung, fractured vertebrae, loss of skin on her back and breaks to her collarbone, ribs, hip and legs.
It is understood that Mrs Heard, known locally as 'Patsy', may have stumbled behind the vehicle as she made her daily trip to the Co-op supermarket.
Police spoke to the driver of the delivery lorry, a 48-year-old man from Exeter, but took no further action.
Mrs Atkinson's husband, Ian, told this paper the family was in regular touch with the hospital and Mrs Heard was being kept sedated.
He said: "She's under sedation but is hanging on. She's stable. It's just a case of keeping our fingers crossed that she'll pull through."
Mrs Heard regularly looks after the Atkinsons' pet cat, Phoebe, and was looking forward to meeting their new puppy, called Dash.
Last week, Mrs Atkinson said she believed the entrance to Jenner Parc should be gated as it was potentially "lethal". There are a lot of families with children living in the area, she said.
Her idea was backed by Marie Wood, who lives on Jenner Parc, close to the scene of the accident.
She said: "It's such a terrible thing to happen. I often see [Mrs Heard] walk past on her way to the Co-op. She's only a tiny little thing.
"It's been an accident waiting to happen. We always get lorries coming in here but it's only a small close. It might be better if we could get it gated off. It could be a child next time."
