A stylish and colour-filled shop has become the first to open in Cornwall as part of the "Portas Pilots" initiative to revive ailing town centres.
Retail expert and television presenter Mary Portas did the honours as contemporary homewares company Block Design unveiled its new store in Liskeard.
The firm, which is based ten miles away in the village of St Germans, was established 12 years ago and has focused on wholesale supply and online retail.
But sales manager Sarah Medway said the chance of opening a shop in Liskeard, which they have rent-free for a year thanks to the pilot scheme, was too good to miss.
"It's not somewhere where we would have thought of setting up," she said, "but it is a really great initiative and something we wanted to be a part of."
Liskeard is among the handful of towns nationwide which can tap into a £1.2 million fund to improve the area, as well as the advice of Ms Portas.
