REDRUTH 21 DINGS CRUSADERS 0
Redruth ground out a good National 2 South win over useful opponents Dings Crusaders at the Recreation Ground as they bounced back from last week's hevay defeat at Hartpury College, reports Bill Hooper.
Heavy showers and during the game made the ball slippery and the ground underfoot treacherous.
The Reds got off to a flying start as winger Tom Notman scored his side's first try with barely two minutes on the clock. Paul Thirlby added the extras with a fine conversion.
Despite the promising start Redruth found Dings hard to breakdown despite the hard work put in by the forwards especially man-of-the-match prop Darren Jacques.Thirlby added a penalty after just 13 minutes but that proved to be the only other score before half-time.
Thirlby kicked a couple of penalties during the third quarter to give the Reds a 16-0 cushion.
Dings, playing down the slope, looked for a way back into the game but found the Reds defence to tight.
Greg Goodfellow on as a replacement wrapped up the win with the final play as he exploited a gap to score Redruth's second try and earn his side four valuable league points.
