It was a study in scarlet and green when the East Cornwall Hunt welcomed neighbouring hunt, the Lamerton, into its country for a joint meet at Trevadlock, near Launceston, on Saturday.
For the East Cornwall uniform is green with a scarlet collar and the Lamerton Hunt staff wear scarlet with a green collar.
The meet, hosted by Jo and James Sleep at Trevadlock Farm, gave members of the Lamerton Hunt the chance to ride over Bodmin Moor with their hounds and professional huntsman, Dave Lewis.
A total of 70 riders from both packs turned out for the special occasion and the visitors were welcomed by the East Cornwall master, Graham Higgins, who said weather conditions were perfect for a good day's hunting. Lamerton joint-master Roger Heal said the occasion had been eagerly anticipated by his members all season.
After a traditional stirrup cup the pack moved off to hunt drag lines laid across the East Moor, and enjoyed a good run from Redmoor Marsh to Treburland.
Joint meets are rare occasions. The East Cornwall Hunt dates from 1873, when it was founded by William Coryton, and has a registered hunt country centred on Liskeard, Callington and Five Lanes. The Lamerton dates from 1853, with a registered country straddling the Devon and Cornwall county boundary, centred on Launceston and Tavistock.
