POLICE are appealing for help in tracing the person who made a hoax call claiming a bomb had been placed at Truro College last week.

While the college did not have to be evacuated, police officers were rushed to the scene and took time to check that there was no bomb at the college.

It meant that for some time all available officers in Truro were detained at the college.

The hoax call was received by the college at around 12.30pm last Wednesday.

Police said that the caller was believed to be a young male.

Inspector Mark Richards of Truro police said: "The staff at the college followed their set procedure when receiving this kind of call and they along with police officers carried out a full search of the premises which found it was clear. The college was not evacuated.

"In these times of heightened alert over terrorist activity we have to approach these sorts of calls properly and ensure that there is no actual threat.

"While whoever made the call probably thinks it was a funny prank it could have had serious consequences as our officers had to go to the college and were unable to do their normal duties.

"I am sure that whoever was responsible for this would have spoken to others about this and I would urge anyone who knows who is behind this call to get in contact with us.

"Alternatively the person responsible could just volunteer themselves to us. We would like to catch up with them sooner rather than later."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Truro police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
