Peninsula League invokes 'severe weather' regulation

The Carlsberg South West Peninsula Football League has invoked its 'severe weather' regulation for fixtures scheduled this weekend.
League secretary Phil Hiscox issued a statement saying: "Due to the wet weather this week which has caused severe flooding in general, and to some of our grounds in particular, coupled with the Met office having a further weather warning in place for more rain on Saturday from approx 10am onwards, I have reluctantly decided to invoke the "severe weather regulation" regarding games scheduled for Saturday November 24.
"
The met office have issued an updated weather warning split into two parts - the area of North, East & South Devon is an amber warning for heavy rain, there is a yellow flood warning in place for the rest of the area.
"
This means that games this weekend can be called off by the host club from midday onwards today (Friday, as opposed to the day of the match) and without the need for the pitch to be inspected by a match referee.
"
Host clubs must still inform me as league secretary, the opponents and the match officials of any postponement.
"
However if clubs feel the game has a chance of being played tomorow they are quite able to leave the decision until Saturday morning, can get a referee's opinion if they wish and then make a final decision, provided that the decision is taken before the away team is due to travel.
"
I will be at my desk for the rest of the day, save for about an hour at around 2pm to 3pm, and will accept from host clubs only any notifications of either games being postponed, or indeed any decisions to leave the matter until Saturday morning."
Tonight's scheduled premier division match between Plymouth Parkway and Newquay was postponed earlier today because of a waterlogged Bolitho Park pitch.
