A derelict hotel in Newquay has been damaged in a suspected arson attack.
Eleven fire crews fought the blaze at the former Hotel Riviera on Lusty Glaze Road, which broke out at around 6.30am.
The fire took hold in the first and second floors of the 50m by 50m (165ft by 165ft) building, which has 50 bedrooms, the fire service said.
Fears were initially raised that people could be trapped within the burning property as it is known to be used by rough sleepers.
But following a thorough search by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, by 10.10am all people were accounted for and crews withdrew from the building.
It is the second fire at the site in less than a year, after one broke out in September 2011.
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said that as there is no power source to the building, arson is suspected.
He added: "The cause of the fire remains unclear and we are carrying out an investigation alongside Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service."
The incident was scaled down at 8.30am, but at its height 11 fire appliances from across the county were at the scene, as well as the aerial ladder platform from Newquay and the incident command unit from Launceston.
