The Met Office have updated their warnings for the South West and put all of Cornwall in the amber warning category.

Earlier on the Met Office issued yellow and amber warnings for Cornwall and Devon respectively saying up to 40mm of rain could fall during the course of the day. The area covered by the amber warning covered most of North Devon, extending down across Exeter and the Torbay area.

The updated warning covers all of Devon and Cornwall and extends all the way to Bristol and Cardiff.

The Met Office's chief forecaster stressed that there were still uncertainties about the distribution of the heavy rains and winds that would sweep through the region through most of Saturday.

"However, it looks likely that the 30-40 mm will fall across many of the areas the region indicated, with the risk of 50-60 mm falling over parts of Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly," he said.

A yellow warning from the Met Office advises the public to be aware, while an amber warning means the public should be prepared.

"Further persistent rain will spread across England and Wales on Saturday, turning heavy at times later. Given existing levels of saturation, the public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding, In addition, winds will strengthen, bringing the risk of gusts into the 60's of MPH in exposed parts of South West England during the evening, which could cause damage to trees," the Met Office warned.
