Homes in Cornwall are this evening being evacuated as high winds and torrential rain have caused major flooding on the south coast.
Cornwall Council has set up a control centre at Truro's County Hall to provide a coordinated response to the crisis.
The main areas for concern this evening are Helston, Polperro, Mevagissy, Millbrook and Torpoint.
A rest centre has been set up in the Methodist Church at Millbrook where 100 people are being evacuated from 40 properties.
Mevagissy's Chapel Street and Chapel Square are flooded and police have closed roads into the village. There are reports that 12 properties have flooded with another 80 at risk.
Fire and Rescue services are pumping water out the top end of the village of Polperro.
The Environment Agency has warned 'The flooding situation in Polperro is now significant and serious. River levels are rising and expected to continue to flood, causing significant flooding.' The Agency has warned residents at risk move immediately to higher ground.
The next high tide in Polperro will be at around 3am on Sunday morning.
Helston's River Cober levels are rising and it is expected to flood out into the lower areas of the town causing 'significant hazard'. The Environment Agency has warned flooding is imminent.
Cornwall Council's Customer Contact Centre at Scorrier was opened to deal with the high volume of calls and crews from the fire and rescue service, the highways service, environment team, and the localism service have all been involved in responding to reports of flooding.
Due to the high volume of calls the fire and rescue service have been prioritising calls to life risk incidents, and are not able to deal immediately with calls to flooded properties.
The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings for most rivers in Cornwall.
Exeter based weather agency, the Met Office, has had Cornwall on an amber 'be prepared' warning all day.
Earlier the major trunk roads into Cornwall the A30 and A39 were both blocked from flooding.
First Great Western train services are currently unable to travel into and out of Devon and Cornwall due to flooding between Taunton and Exeter.
