POLICE are hunting a man with a distinctive tattoo after a woman was raped in Callington.

The woman was attacked at about ten past midnight on Saturday as she walked home alone along Launceston Road (A388).

She had earlier left the Swingletree Pub in Kelly Bray and was walking towards Callington.

Her attacker confronted her at the junction of Isacombe Oaks, police said.

The suspect had a distinctive tattoo on his right thigh.

This tattoo is known as a Triquetra or Celtic Knot.

Notably, her attacker is described as smelling of antiseptic or bleach.

Police described as a white man, aged in his 20s or 30s and of wiry or athletic build.

He is taller than 5ft 7in and wore a slightly faded, red hooded top with a pocket at the front.

The hood was up and the drawstrings were pulled tight around his face. He wore dark jeans and white trainers with a red trim - similar to a Nike tick.

Police would like to hear from anyone who knows someone who matches such a description or has such a tattoo on their right hip.

A spokesman said: "Such an incident in this area is very rare indeed. We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time or may have been making their way home after an evening out.

"The red hooded top is distinctive and may jog someone's memory. The tattoo and its location will be unique to only a few individuals."

Anyone with any information is asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 quoting crime reference BN/12/751.
