A SERVING RAF St Mawgan military officer is thought to be the only one who is also a county chairman for the Royal British Legion.
Squadron Leader, Shaun Pascoe, will take over the role for the Cornwall branch.
Responsible for the Medical Emergency Response Teams (MERT) in Afghanistan, who retrieve wounded personnel from the battlefield, Mr Pascoe said: "Whilst our own recovery response times have improved greatly - thus saving more lives - there is still masses of support needed for those guys who do return home. They often come back scarred – not just physically but mentally, and problems can arise in later years.
"That is why my teams and I are doing this."
Squadron Leader Pascoe, who also led the 'Poppy Pull' which involved pulling a giant six foot poppy around the county to raise awareness for the RBL, will take over from Lieutenant Commander (Retired) Clive Rawson..
The Station is now establishing a new RAF Association branch – to be known as RAFA St Mawgan.
There are a considerable number of retired RAF members in Cornwall and it is hoped that many will welcome the opportunity to once again meet regularly on the base.  Applications are welcome from all past and serving members of the RAF.
