FLOOD wardens and residents in Mevagissey, Par, St Blazey and Gorran Haven were awake until the early hours of this morning battling a flood deluge.
Mevagissey Flood Group chairman Barry Wilton said he was up until 4am helping to clear the flood water.
There was concern of the river bursting its banks, as the water was flowing 2in below the flood level.
Houses in Chapel Street, Mevagissey, were flooded. Some were holiday homes and some were empty as their occupants are still living in emergency accommodation from the last floods.
One of the houses was sold at auction only last week, added Mr Wilton, for £64,000.
"The price of houses because of the flooding is scary really," he said. "The water came up really quickly last night – there was just so much rain.
"We were just a gnat's whisker away from the whole village being completely flooded again but luckily we were coordinated and prepared.
The fire brigade and police were here and the Environment Agency was trying to clear the river grate but we were trying to tell them not to because it holds the water back."
Mevagissey firefighters were also tackling flooded garages in Gorran Haven, despite the fact their own fire station had flooded.
Water poured off the fields at the back of Trelispen Park Drive and into residents' garages.
Six crew members used small tools to divert water away from the houses.
"It pours off in torrents into the road and then the lanes at the end can't take it and it rushes through the garages," said Trelispen Park Drive resident Vanessa Farbrother.
"A fire engine came to help one of our neighbours. She had to open her garage doors at both ends to let the flood water though. It just overwhelmed the sandbags."
Firefighters were also called to a landslide at Pontsmill, Par, at 1.12am this morning.
After liaising with the property owner and assessing the situation the six crew members established there was no risk to life and left the scene as no further assistance was required.
Meanwhile, volunteers worked through the night to protect Par and St Blazey from the floodwater.
The team of 10 cleared drains of leaves and debris and patrolled the streets in a bid to stop the deluge.
Worst hit was the A390 at Bridge Street, where at around 12.30am this morning the water was at sections 18in deep.
Cornwall Council's contractors Cormac cleared drains and the police were also called.
Deep water caused traffic problems at the Britannia Inn, Par, and there were also reports of surface water at St Andrew's Road and Eastcliffe Road.
Par and St Blazey Community Flood Group chairman Charles Richards said: "We had volunteers out throughout the night at different times.
"They kept an eye on things to ensure nothing was going wrong and we were on hand to respond if anything happened and report if necessary."
Traffic Update:
Traffic is queuing on the A390 Holmbush Road in St Blazey at the A3082 Par Moor Road junction because of flooding.
There was a landslip on School Hill at the Cliff Street junction, which has now been cleared.
