A horse was rescued from a disused inspection pit at Redruth mid afternoon on Thursday.
Firefighters from Camborne and Redruth were called to the Blowinghouse area of the town shortly before 3.30pm, following reports that the 12-year-old gelding was stuck to a depth up to its shoulders.
Crews used a winch to lift the animal to safety and a vet confirmed its only injuries were minor abrasions to its legs.
Firefighter Rob Hosking, from Redruth Community Fire Station, said: "The initial plan was to coax the horse out of the pit.
"We put some hay bales down and some stepping stones in the hope it would climb out itself.
"But it didn't 'play ball', so we managed to get access for a specialist rescue vehicle with a hoist to get close and managed to lift the horse out.
"It was a fairly technical rescue. It was quite a large horse, about 16 hands high, and you never know how they are going to react.
"But the owner was there and able to keep it placid."
