A landlord is quitting the village pub he took over just two months ago – after it was flooded 11 times.
Tony Ginn, 50, was told The Ship Inn at Mevagissey, Cornwall, was prone to "occasional" flooding before he took over in October.
But it flooded on the day he picked up the keys and has been overcome by water a further ten times, costing him £10,000 in lost trade and repairs.
He said: "It flooded for the first time the day I got the keys in the October.
"I was told it floods occasionally, but never imagined it would be three times a week, as it was last weekend.
"We are leaving in two months, not from choice, but it's impossible to run a business.
"Luckily the kitchen is upstairs but we have lost so much money and it's the cost of the mopping up as well."
Tony said the floods had so far meant closing the pub for 15 days, costing him £10,000 in lost trade.
The first flood came as a shock as the deluge came overnight.
Tony, whose tenancy for the pub is with St Austell Brewery, said: "There were warnings but it seemed to be all right.
"Then the first thing I knew about the place being flooded was when I came downstairs in the morning and stepped into four inches of water."
He said: "It's a shame but I can't fight the economic recession as well as flooding when the bills are piling up.
"I came back to Cornwall because I'm originally from here but I made a bad choice with this pub.
"I need to cut my losses before I get into serious trouble. As it is I'm going to struggle to pay my business rates because of this."
He and his wife, Tina, are now in the process of finding a new pub to take over.
Tony said: "We are not looking in the same area but we'd like to stay away from water this time."
