A VANDAL has cut through a set of Christmas tree lights, causing over £100 of damage.
The Royal British Legion in Heamoor has been left with the bill after it was discovered that the lights had been cut through in four different places.
Staff at the venue said the worst part of the vandalism was that it had robbed the village of a festive looking Christmas tree.
"First of all we thought the rain had got in and stopped the lights working but then someone looked at them and said they had been cut," said chairman Keith Williams.
He added that it cost around £120 to replace the lights with most of the money being donated by local people.
"It is very annoying, we have lots of other things that the money could have been spent on."
The lights have been replaced this morning and should be switched on again tonight.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said the incident happened between 8.15pm and 8.45pm on Friday December 21.
They are investigating whether the vandalism is linked to an argument between a woman and staff over tickets to a new year's eve event.
Officers have released a description of a woman they would like to talk to in connection with the incident.
She is said to be in her twenties, with a slim build and shoulder length blonde hair. Police say she was wearing a red top and white trousers at the time.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101 quoting crime reference AP/12/3058.
