BRITAIN'S best-known film critic Mark Kermode will introduce one of his favourite films at The Plaza cinema, Truro, on Saturday, March 30.

Following the screening of 1972 sci-fi classic Silent Running, he will talk about the film.

Bruce Dern plays the lone crew member of a spaceship harbouring Earth's last nature reserves who goes renegade when he is instructed to jettison his beloved forests and return home. Accompanied only by three robots, he ponders the fate of his last pocket of nature and the murders of his fellow crew members in this far-looking speculative film, which is strangely moving.

Kermode is a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. He contributes to Sight and Sound magazine, The Observer  and BBC Radio 5 Live, where he presents Kermode and Mayo's Film Review with Simon Mayo.

He also co-presents the BBC Two arts programme The Culture Show and discusses other branches of the arts for the BBC Two programme Newsnight Review.

He has long written of his love for Cornwall and often visits on holiday, and has visited The Plaza several times.

He will introduce the film at 6pm and there will be 145 seats available priced £10 from https://www.jack-roe.co.uk/TaposWebSales/Main/platru/book
