The latest weather forecasts have made the Met Office extend their yellow weather warning for Cornwall so that it now runs until Tuesday. The weather warning had previously lasted till Monday.

"As temperatures fall below freezing on Monday night into Tuesday morning icy stretches are likely on untreated surfaces especially in areas where any further sleet, snow or rain has fallen on Monday," the Met Office said.

A yellow weather warning advises the public to be aware of conditions. The current weather conditions can, to some extent, be used as a yardstick for how the weather might turn out, as the Met Office also issued a yellow weather warning for the weekend.

The latest forecasts say that temperatures will drop below zero overnight, leading to ice forming where snow has fallen or melted during the day. In addition there is the risk of further, local snowfalls during Monday.

Rain is likely to reach the extreme southwest on Monday night and might make its way north and east on Tuesday, in places turning into sleet and snow.

The Met Office said the extent of sleet and snow was very uncertain at this stage, but warned the public that they should be aware of the risk of travel disruption.
