After basking in comparatively mild temperatures for days while the rest of Britain ground to a halt in Arctic-like conditions, west Cornwall was finally hit by a blanket of snow last night.

While not quite so deep as the snow that caused major disruption for commuters across the rest of the country it has made for some scenic winter shots this morning.

But it still was enough to cause some interference with journeys, as St Levan Community Primary School, which is situated in one of the worst affected areas in west Penwith, opened at 10.30am

Snow was also experienced in mid-Cornwall as well, which like west Cornwall, had remained relatively snow free.

The Met Office has warned that sub-zero overnight temperatures could lead to ice forming where snow has fallen or melted during Sunday with further localised snowfalls of up 5cm in the South West.

There is currently no more snow forecast for Penzance today or tomorrow.
