Bishop Tim Thornton of Truro proved he has a head for heights after spending a day with youngsters rock climbing and other outdoor activities.

The cleric joined Year 7 pupils from Falmouth School at the BF Adventure 60-acre site at Halvasso, near Penryn, West Cornwall.

Formerly known as Bishop's Forum, BF Adventure is a charity set up to help disadvantaged young people in the county.

Bishop Tim saw first-hand how outdoor adventures can help build confidence, motivation and team work.

The site includes the challenging "splinters" climb which Reverend Tim conquered with a little help from instructor Martin Cathrow.

The children also scaled splinters climb and made it to the top in record time.

Other thrills over the two-day event earlier this week included archery, zip wires, raft building, bushcraft and an overnight stay and barbecue.

Bishop Tim is a trustee of BF Adventure.

Every year the charity organises more than 8,000 activity sessions for more than 3,000 people.

Last year as well as activity days and short residential stays, the charity ran structured long-term programmes for 50 young people aged 14-19-years-olds not in education, employment or training.

A further 78 children who were excluded from school also took part in the scheme.
