Community hospitals in Cornwall have been rated highly following inspections on cleanliness, food and privacy and dignity.

Patient Environment Action Team assessments are carried out every year on in-patient healthcare sites in England that have more than ten beds.

The inspections act as a benchmark to ensure improvements are made in essential aspects of patient care.

All 14 community hospitals in the county, which are run by Peninsula Community Health, received either "good" or "excellent" ratings in all categories.

Director of nursing Helen Newson said: "We are committed to putting patient safety and care at the heart of what we do by providing quality community healthcare services that meet the need of and benefit the community.

"These fantastic results show the excellent work and commitment of our staff and we want to thank them all, especially the general services assistants, who have helped in promoting high levels of infection prevention and control, hygiene and cleanliness in each of our hospitals."
