Staff at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall will be bringing out the bunting shortly for the attraction's 10th birthday celebrations.
The morning of March 14 2003 saw the visitor attraction at Falmouth open its doors for the first time.
Over the years more than 1.4 million visitors have enjoyed wandering around the museum admiring the many exhibits.
Some 12,000 pirate hats have been made, 67,000 scones baked and 300,000 hours donated by volunteers.
The museum has played a part in many memorable events including Tall Ship festivals, Antiques Roadshow and Ellen MacArthur's record breaking sailing challenge.
Dame Ellen MacArthur said: "The warmth of the welcome, the number of people, the atmosphere, all played such an extraordinary role in creating a moment which I shall neither forget, nor replicate.
"Arriving in Falmouth was surreal and such a central part of that was National Maritime Museum Cornwall."
Jonathan Griffin, director at the museum, said: "As the museum has grown up, so has Events Square and Discovery Quay, offering a new heart to Falmouth and completing a regenerative transformation of this part of the waterfront.
"We pride ourselves on doing more with very little, thinking differently and working with others to create partnerships for the common good.
"There have been far too many wonderful moments to recount them all and too many people locally and further afield to thank.
"We are grateful to everyone for helping us grow up, for being part of our development and we look forward to delivering more for our visitors and playing a part in Falmouth's future in the decades to come."
