Bodmin Town extended their lead at the top of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League premier division to five points with a 5-1 victory over third from bottom Cullompton Rangers.
Their nearest rivals, Plymouth Parkway, were held to a 1-1 draw at Torpoint, while third placed Elburton Villa also drew 1-1, at St Austell.
With a game in hand on both Devon sides, Bodmin will fancy their chances of retaining the title, but despite the 5-1 win over Cullompton, they will have to play better than they did at Priory Park.
Their first half display ranked among their worst 45 minutes of the season. They were fortunate to be awarded a penalty after 42 minutes when Chris Luxton went down under a challenge from Gary Wills, with Adam Carter converting the spot kick.
But their lacklustre mood was summed up when Cullompton equalised within a minute. Jack Towill did well to produce a cross from the right byline but the danger should have been cleared away by Bodmin keeper Kevin Miller or Tom Chambers.
In the event both of them made a mess of attempted clearances and striker Ryan Leverton toe-poked the ball between them to equalise.
Bodmin's players must have been relieved that manager Darren Gilbert was away, because he would surely have launched into one of his half-time tirades.
As it was, first team coach Ronnie Swiggs got the message over that there had to be an improvement and it was almost immediate, with Chambers heading Bodmin into a 48th minute lead from Olly Brokenshire's free kick.
Bodmin continued to struggle to find their normal rhythm but the introduction of Neil Slateford midway through the second half helped them to put the points beyond reach.
Luxton headed home Slateford's 66th minute cross and then the substitute, attempting to cross to the far post from the right wing, watched as the ball floated over Cullompton keeper John Wannell into the net to make it 4-1 after 73 minutes.
Overlapping right back Lewis Reed claimed the fifth goal in injury time, although his ball across the face of goal was deflected into the net by the leg of Cullompton defender Chris Eveleigh.
Bodmin: Miller, Reed, Rundle, Chambers, Morgan, Brokenshire (Matthews 57), Colwell (Krac 70), Swiggs, Carter, Luxton, Doddridge (Slateford 57). Subs not used: Simmonds, Hodge.
In the battle of the basement, second from bottom Liskeard beat rock bottom Penzance 1-0 at Penlee Park courtesy of a second half Lee Blatchford goal.
The Liskeard skipper had earlier missed a tenth minute penalty.
