Voluntary redundancy plans have been announced at Truro College as it looks for ways of dealing with reduced funding.
Concerned staff at the college contacted the West Briton after receiving a letter which detailed the difficult financial situation being dealt with.
In the letter to staff the college said the challenges included a reduction in funding levels for 16 to 19-year-olds, the withdrawal of grants in higher education and the withdrawal of the educational maintenance allowance (EMA).
It said the college was looking at various ways to minimise the risk of any compulsory redundancies.
It stated: "As part of this process, we are therefore implementing in the first instance an enhanced voluntary redundancy option for full time and part time fixed hours staff who may wish to consider this route."
One of the members of staff who contacted the West Briton, who did not want to be named, said: "I think it's incredibly important that people realise that their children's education could end up being damaged by cuts to the college staff."
In a statement from David Walrond, Principal of Truro and Penwith College, he said the college was in a strong financial position with significant reserves and no debts.
Mr Walrond said staff at the college and the organisations that represent them were agreed on the need to minimise the risk in the future of compulsory redundancies.
He said: "We have therefore, by contrast, introduced a limited voluntary redundancy option here, with enhancement, for those staff who may wish to consider this, and we have invited expressions of interest."
