Two people have been rescued in a joint operation after being cut off by the tide at Zacry's Island, Watergate Bay, Cornwall.
Emergency servies were sent to the location at 7pm on Sunday, but the inshore lifeboat from Newquay was thwarted by rough seas.
The pair climbed nine metres up the island to a spot where they could be reached by a winch line from an RNAS Culdrose helicopter.
They were taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries and for exposure.
Rescuers said it was a difficult operation because of the location and conditions and that, while the man and dialled 999 to alert authorities, he had been unsure of his position.
