POLICE are investigating a spate of bungled burglaries which have caused hundreds of pounds of damage.
Four homes were targeted in the latest in an on-going crime wave across St Austell during the Easter bank holiday.
Approximately £400 of damaged was caused when would-be thieves smashed through a back door to get inside the house on Tremena Road, on Wednesday, March 27 between 12.30pm and 4.30pm.
Nothing was taken from the property.
"It appears they have legged it when the alarm went off", said St Austell police inspector Stuart Gibbons.
They also kicked another back door down and caused £200 of damage on Beech Road on Sunday, March 31, between 9am and 4pm. Despite the house being searched nothing was taken, police said.
On East Hill £150 of damage was caused to a window and inside door between 11.15am and 6pm on Saturday, March 30, after an attempt to open the window and get inside failed.
Thieves used a spade from the garden shed of a home on Agar Road before stashing stolen items from the property on Sunday, March 31, between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.
