Hayle's hospice has been left more than £70,000 in the will of a Crowlas woman.
Olga Robinson left the generous donation to Cornwall Hospice Care, which runs St Julia's Hospice.
At the end of last month a cheque for £71,122.50, was presented to the facility by Shirley Tompkins, who had known Mrs Robinson for more than 25 years and knew of her support for the hospice.
Mrs Tompkins said: "My dear friend had said how much she wished to support St Julia's as a much-needed local charity and I always knew that she had planned to do this with a gift left in her will.
"She knew how important the work of the hospice is to our local community and how all the funds to run the hospice have to be raised by the charity.
"She would be so pleased to know what a difference her gift is going to make to the people of this part of Cornwall."
Director of clinical services for Cornwall Hospice Care, Rhona Ewing, received the cheque on behalf of the charity.
"This is very generous gift, so kindly left to us by the late Mrs Robinson, which will go directly to support patient care to ensure we can continue to provide our hospice services for those who need them," she said.
Legacies officer for the charity, Dee Reeves, said it was supporters and benefactors like Mrs Robinson that helped they charity to raise the majority of its funds to cover the running costs of its two hospices – St Julia's in Hayle and the Mount Edgcumbe Hospice in St Austell.
She said: "We are enormously grateful to Mrs Robinson for thinking of Cornwall Hospice Care and our work at St Julia's when she made her will. In the current economic climate, gifts in wills are proving to be a vital part of our charity income and one way of ensuring that our hospice services can continue to be provided across the county in the years to come."
