JAKE Ash says he and the rest of the Truro City squad would "love" to stay at the club next season, despite their relegation from Blue Square South finally being confirmed after their 2-2 Easter Monday draw with Basingstoke Town.

But the City skipper said he and the rest of the players had yet to hear from the club about the plans for next season when they will, all other things being equal, be back in the Southern League's premier division.

"We will just have to wait and see," he said.

Much is likely to depend on a creditors' meeting being held next Friday at the club when it is hoped a CVA (Company Voluntary Arrangement) will be reached, allowing the club to come out of administration.

Ash, who is just five short of 300 appearances for the club, said: "We are still a bit in the dark at the moment but hopefully we will hear something after the meeting.

"The boys would love to stay but it just depends which way the club wants to go in the future.

"The most important thing is that there is still a club to be relegated."

And Ash vowed that the players would give everything in their final six games.

"We are knew it was coming and it is a bitter disappointment after all the success we have had.

"But we have given it everything and nothing will change until the end of the season.

"We owe it to the fans, the club and other teams in the league. We have been in virtually every game this season and have just lost out on points.

"I think if the points gap had been smaller we would have picked up a few extra points."

City boss Lee Hodges said he thought the writing was on the wall for City back in August.

He said: "I think our fate was sealed even before a ball was kicked.

"There were too many off the field issues, but to still have a club here is a massive achievement.

"The players have been brilliant for me and the fans have got right behind us and we have given it a right go.

"It's has been a very tough old season but everyone has played their part and hopefully the club will come back bigger and better."

This Saturday Truro are at home to Eastbourne Borough (3pm) and then play their penultimate home game against Eastleigh on Tuesday evening (7.45pm). And Lee Hodges wants to finish the season on a high and has set a target of 30 points, meaning City need another ten points from their final six matches.

Hodges said: "We have some good teams to play and although it is a big ask to get to 30 we will keep going until the final ball is kicked."
